Description

“Christmas is such a special time of year. I love all the things that are so wonderful and dear to family. Every year we would all go to the church on Christmas Eve for the special singing, and then hurry home to wait for Santa to visit our quaint farmhouse. The next morning we had the delightful and joyous time of opening the unique little gifts that are still so very close to my heart. All of these things are so wonderful, yet the greatest gift was given that Holy night in a manger when God sent the greatest gift of all to the world: Jesus. This truly was The Gift of Love.”
– Vestal Goodman

Vestal Goodman was a pioneer in gospel music, ministering and performing for more than half a century. She became known as “The Queen of Gospel Music” and is one of the most beloved artists ever in the genre. She and her husband Howard “Happy” Goodman won multiple Grammy and Dove Awards, charted 15 # 1 hit songs, and performed more than 3,500 concerts as part of The Happy Goodman Family. In 1969, Vestal won the first ever Female Vocalist of the Year Dove Award. In the latter part of her career, Vestal appeared regularly on Bill Gaither videos and at his Homecoming concerts. She also recorded two “Vestal and Friends” projects with top artists from other genres.

Vestal Goodman’s life ended unexpectedly December 27, 2003. Her title of “Queen of Gospel Music” was proclaimed in a wide array of magazines including Rolling Stone, Billboard, Time, People, and the Singing News. This year, Vestal was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Vestal and the Goodmans exposure is stronger than ever with the success of their two Gospel Legacy series projects and the television marketing for the recent #1 release from Bill and Gloria Gaither, A Tribute to Howard and Vestal Goodman.

It was always Vestal’s desire to record a Christmas record. The Gift of Love fulfilled that desire, and is the last recorded project from this legendary artist. It is with great honor that New Haven Records and Goodman Ministries present Vestal Goodman, The Gift of Love.
