Nashville, TN – On the heels of receiving Best Gospel Entertainer of the Year honors at the 39th Annual Chicago Music Awards, Chicago Mass Choir has been named a finalist in six categories for the 36th Annual Stellar Awards including:
- Album of the Year (My Soul Says Yes)
- Choir of the Year Traditional Album of the Year (My Soul Says Yes)
- Traditional Choir of the Year
- Traditional Male Artist of the Year (Percy Gray, Jr.)
- Traditional Female Artist of the Year (Felicia Welch, soloist for “My Soul Says Yes/I Say Yes to My Lord”)

This is the 11th Stellar Award nomination for the internationally acclaimed group, which previously garnered the award for Best Traditional Choir in 2017. In addition, they have been finalists for two Grammy and Dove awards.

Percy Gray, Jr. the group’s producer (and occasional soloist), is thrilled by the recognition: “It’s no accident that the word ‘traditional’ appears in many of the categories in which Chicago Mass is nominated. In challenging times like these, people return to the trustworthiness of the gospel and the encouragement of the music they grew up listening to. We continue to be committed to creating gospel music whose roots run deep but whose branches reach far and wide. We’re so grateful to members of the Stellar Awards Gospel Music Academy (SAGMA) for honoring us with these nominations.”

Dr. Feranda B. Williamson, Chicago Mass Choir’s president and CEO, shares Gray’s appreciation to their friends and fans: “I would personally like to say thank you to everyone who has supported the Music Ministry of Chicago Mass Choir over 30 years. It is truly a blessing for our music to be supported by radio, internet and other digital outlets during this pandemic season.  Although, we were not able to physically share our music on the new project, God opened doors and we are forever grateful for the support that this project has received.  New Haven Records has been a blessing to us and thank God for our relationship for over 20 years.”

My Soul Says Yes, the choir’s first full-length project in four years, was heralded by the electrifying radio single, “My Soul Says Yes/I Say Yes to My Lord,” which featured Felicia Welch as lead vocalist. Welch was also the soloist on Chicago Mass Choir’s hit, “I Pray We’ll All Be Ready.” These songs join such other unforgettable Chi Mass anthems as “Holy Ghost Power,” “God is My Everything,” “Thank You Thank You Jesus,” and “We Give You Praise.”

New Haven Records president Ken Harding congratulates the group on this honor: “We couldn’t be more delighted by these nominations and encourage Chicago Mass Choir’s nation of fans to go online and cast their ballots on their behalf.”
